It is not easy hosting a YAT Meet & Greet.
There is the question of who to invite, where to host it and what
to serve. But with long-range planning and careful attention to
detail, it can be done—and with much success.
Here are a few pointers that are working very
well for us and may make the task less challenging for you:
- Have as many board members at the meeting as
possible.
- Make the meeting a low key event.
- Have it at a board member's office or home.
- Make the affair as low cost as possible—have
the board member provide appetizers.
- Let all attendees know what NAIFA is all about
and how it could help them personally and professionally.
- Let each board member introduce himself and
explain to the audience what he does for the association and how
he could help new members enhance their bottom line.
- Get to know all of the new members and what
it is they need from the association. Let each new member introduce
himself and mention the one thing he would like the association
to do for him. Invite each new member to get involved in the association
at all levels—committees, the board and in programs such
as LILI.
The results
By using these tips and techniques, we have been able to achieve
extraordinary results. To date, we have held two of these Meet &
Greet Socials and have had about 40 people attend. Ten joined during
the meetings and three became board members within one year of the
event.
