Another convention has come and gone, and with it we have new leadership for the Young Advisor Team. We sat down with Marc Bregman, YAT’s new chair and a member of NAIFA-Stockton (Calif.), to get a sense of what you’ll be seeing if his vision for YAT comes to fruition and as YAT continues to grow and develop this year.
“We’ve built the foundation and have some of the walls up,” says Bregman, a Million Dollar Round Table producer with New York Life Insurance Co. “But this is going to be a large building, and we need to design and construct the rest of it.” Bregman’s priorities for the coming year include a number of “construction projects.”

Matters of state
First and foremost, he would like to see state chapters of YAT formed to provide a bridge between the national organization and the local association YATs. “We’d like to see a chair assigned to each state,” says Bregman. “Right now we’re bypassing state leadership, and that makes it difficult for the national YAT to know who’s in charge. By formalizing state leadership, we’ll be better able to assign responsibilities, and states will be able to work with national as they develop information and programs.”
YAT in a box
YAT-oriented “Programs in a Box” are the next thing on his to-do list. “NAIFA has Programs in a Box, which are multimedia presentations of interest to NAIFA members,” says Bregman. “We’d like to do collaborate with the Member Benefits Committee to present potential YAT programs.”
Event ideas
By sending out event ideas regularly, Bregman hopes to generate more interest among locals for holding ongoing YAT events. “Right now we only have a couple of potential, ready-made events, which can involve some long-term planning. I would like to see more,” he says. “These are simple, quick-start ideas to get people together, not too hard; among the things we want to include are tips on how to promote events and how to find people to help run them. You have to use a little creativity to get the word out for YAT events to work.”
In addition, by having state-level YAT leadership and ideas in YAT in-boxes regularly, people in smaller locals who want to participate in YAT will have more resources. “Whether it’s a big local association like New York or a local with only 30 members, we’ll have ideas to share,” Bregman says.
On to 2006
Now that the convention is over, it is, of course, time to start thinking about next year. Bregman is not one to settle for past goals without looking at how he can help do a little better. “We had a good balance of programs for YAT members this year, but we’re already looking at how to improve them,” he says.
We’ll also be working on making YAT Chat the best it can be. As Bregman notes, we all get a lot of email. Tell us what you would like to see in your in-box each month. Write to us at yat@naifa.org.
