I use a service on my phone system that provides customized
audio programming that allows my customers to hear messages while theyre
on hold, rather than dead silence, music or radio commercials. I use it
to tell them about services and products we offer, and provide helpful
tips about ideas they might be interested in.
Many times customers who have been on hold for only
a few seconds come back on the line with questions about something theyve
heard there. Its been a tremendous boost to our sales. When we first
put it in, an average of three or four people per week would ask something
new; now its common. Ten percent of our callers comment on it.
